Abstract

Historical researchers and writers make use of a wide variety of sources in their efforts to illuminate the past and to construct narratives that make the past intelligible. Not all these sources are written documents, although all serve in their way as “texts” that provide some explanation about the times in which they were produced. In this section we will consider various examples of the main types of sources that historians use.
