Abstract

Associate Justice Amy Coney Barrett began serving on the Supreme Court in October 2020, making her just the fifth woman out of 115 total justices ever to serve on the United States’ highest court. (An additional woman, Ketanji Brown Jackson, was appointed after her.) Justice Barrett attended law school at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. She then held prestigious positions as a law clerk, including for Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. Barrett worked at a private law firm before returning to Notre Dame as a law professor. She then served as a federal appeals judge for three years before her confirmation to the Supreme Court.
