Abstract
The Ottoman Empire had its golden age from the mid-fifteenth to the mid-seventeenth centuries, when it reached the limits of its power and territory. The Battle of Vienna in 1683, won by the forces of the Holy Roman Empire in alliance with the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, was the turning point in its history. This marked a long and steady decline that dragged on through the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries until the empire’s final dissolution in 1918 at the end of World War I.
