Abstract

Sarah Winnemucca Hopkins (1844–1891) was a Northern Paiute (also spelled Piute) woman, the daughter of a chief, and a tireless advocate for her people. The Northern Paiute faced pressure from white settlers and corrupt Indian agents who violently dispossessed them of their homelands in what is now Nevada.
