Abstract

Modern business management involves an understanding of several areas of expertise, including strategy, finance, and operations. The evolution of the modern corporation involved a number of key decisions and developments in U.S. history, including what would constitute the basis for the nation's economy. Once America expanded into a large, industrial economy in the late 1800s, corporations were the dominant institutions of society, controlling people's livelihoods, the direction of legislation, and urban growth and expansion. No longer was the United States a nation of small farmers. Rather, it had become a nation of competing interests. Through a series of judicial and legislative decisions, the country developed an infrastructure that was favorable to business.
