Abstract
In August 1912 the newly formed Progressive Party held its nominating convention for president in Chicago and drafted the Progressive Party Platform, dated August 7, 1912. The platform is highly critical of both the Democratic and Republican Parties and makes the case for why its party should govern. Among the principles it puts forward are economic change in the form of an income tax and an inheritance tax, social reforms such as women’s suffrage and the end of child labor, and election modernization including the direct election of senators.
