Abstract

The Papyrus Lansing is an ancient Egyptian document written during the reign of Pharaoh Senusret III. Discovered in Thebes, one of the capitals of ancient Egypt, it was acquired by the British Museum in 1886. The author, Nebmare-nakht, held the position of royal scribe and chief overseer of the cattle of Amun, a crucial administrative role in Egyptian bureaucracy. The overseer of cattle was responsible for managing royal resources, overseeing the inventory of all cattle in the country, and collecting their hides. Despite its mundane subject matter, this administrative role underscores the practical concerns addressed in the papyrus.
