Abstract

Although nothing can be known about the precise date of any of Plato’s dialogues, the Meno is generally agreed, on stylistic and intellectual grounds, to be among Plato’s earliest writings. Probably it was written while Plato was in his thirties, not many years after Socrates’ trial and execution in 399 BCE. In fact, it belongs to a group of dialogues, together with the Euthyphro, Apology, Crito, and Phaedo, that narrate the circumstances leading up to Socrates’s trial together with his death.
