President George W. Bush’s Address to the Nation on Military Operations in Iraq, televised on January 10, 2007, was broadcast from the White House Library and intended to produce support for the increasingly unpopular 2003 Iraq War, particularly as related to a proposed further 20,000 troop deployment. Through this address, President Bush tried to offer up a new long-term strategy aimed at winding down American involvement by first increasing military strength in Iraq, then gradually pulling out as Iraq troops and police personnel were trained and made ready to assume the burden of their own security.
