Abstract

“The Bible and Self- Defence: The Examples of Judith, Moses and David” is chapter 18 of I, Rigoberta Menchú, an Indian Woman in Guatemala, the autobiography of a Guatemalan woman whose family faced oppression and violence by landowners and right-wing soldiers during the Guatemalan Civil War. She describes how her people defended themselves against violence and the role that the Bible played in motivating their efforts.
