Abstract

The Plague Prayers of the Hittite king Mursili II (r. ca. 1321–1295 BCE) are among the most exceptional and distinctive texts coming from Hittite Anatolia. This king wrote these prayers in response to an epidemic throughout his realm, perhaps because he believed that the gods had unresolved issues with his father and predecessor, Suppiluliuma I.
