Abstract

Hour of the Tiger [3:00 a.m.—5:00 a.m.]. Hideyasu and Arinaga returned to the capital, nursing their wounds, to report the defeat at Mamedo on the Sixth. All faces paled, and the palace was in an uproar, with ladies-inwaiting, North Guardsmen, physicians, and yin-yang practitioners running frantically in every direction. It was decided that Fujiwara Tadanobu, Tsuchimikado Sadamichi, Minamoto Arimasa, Fujiwara Norishige, and other great nobles and trusted officials would go to Uji, Seta, and Tawara.
