Abstract

Puck magazine, one of the first satire magazines in the United States, was named after a mischievous fairy in Shakespeare’s play A Midsummer Night’s Dream. One of Puck’s more famous quotes— “What fools these mortals be!”—is carried by the cherub- like character at the top of the magazine’s cover.
