Abstract

In the early 1900s, social activists conducted a widespread and lengthy campaign to end child labor. In the United States at the time, there was no federal law that regulated the employment of children. Instead, it was left to individual states to set the minimum age at which a child could go to work and how many hours they could be employed during the workday.
