On April 10, 1998, the British and Irish governments, after having participated in the Northern Ireland peace talks, formulated the Northern Ireland Peace Agreement, a document that they hoped would end violence in and bring political stability to Northern Ireland. Formally titled the Agreement between the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the Government of Ireland—the Northern Ireland Peace Agreement is also called the Belfast Agreement or the Good Friday Accord.
