Abstract

After the publication of Steinbeck’s novel, California growers did their best to contradict his depiction of conditions on their farms. Read just a little of this essay from the Associated Farmers of Fresno County, Inc., and it becomes apparent that they and Steinbeck had very different conceptions of how the American free enterprise system ought to work.
