Abstract

The Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union, lasting roughly from the end of World War II in 1945 to the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, underlay many of the momentous social, political, cultural, and economic developments in postwar America. Although tensions waxed and waned over the course of four and a half decades, the standoff rippled through every aspect of American life.
