Abstract

Colonization and the subsequent enslavement of Africans and Indigenous Americans produced frequent episodes of armed resistance in the Americas. In most cases, rebellions were spontaneous events, but some were planned. Historians have classified slave revolts as involving ten or more enslaved people with the aim of freedom.
