Abstract

Michael J. Durant was the U.S. Army pilot of a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter, call sign Super 6-4, shot down by a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) during the Battle of Mogadishu in Somalia in October 1993. The Battle of Mogadishu was the result of a raid to apprehend two lieutenants of the Somalian National Alliance. During the raid, two of the Black Hawk helicopters involved in the operation, Super 6-1 and Super 6-4, were hit by RPG fire. The mission shifted from its original assignment to search and rescue.
