Barack Obama: “A New Beginning”Speech on U.S.-Muslim Relations
Overview
Abstract

During his presidential campaign in 2008, Barack Obama argued that the United States needed to reset relations with the Arab world. Since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the country had been engaged in a broad effort to suppress international terrorism and had invaded two Muslim nations, Afghanistan and Iraq. These conflicts exacerbated tensions between the United States and its allies on the one hand, and majority Muslim countries on the other.
