UN Security Council: Resolutions onHostilities in Korea
Overview
Abstract

The founding of the United Nations (UN) in 1945 was meant to fix the problems that plagued its predecessor, the League of Nations, in its attempt to secure global peace. Unlike with the League of Nations, the United States would not only be a member of the UN but would take a leading role. The democratic world, led by the United States, opposed the spread of communism after World War II. Tensions during this time between the communist Soviet Union and the democratic United States mounted as the China became a communist state (the People’s Republic of China, or PRC) in 1949, and North Korea did as well (the People’s Republic of Korea).
