For almost eighty years, wars in Europe—including the War of the Grand Alliance, also called the Nine Years’ War, or King William’s War (1688–1697); Queen Anne’s War, or the War of the Spanish Succession (1702–1713); and King George’s War, or the War of the Austrian Succession (1744–1748)—spilled over into the American colonies.
