Abstract

Under the U.S. Constitution, Congress continued to enjoy premier status as a part of American national government. It no longer had a monopoly of power, as had the Continental Congress during the American Revolution, nor was it the same legislature that was created under the Articles of Confederation. Nonetheless, Congress’s placement under Article I of the Constitution reflected its perceived importance relative to the executive and judicial branches.
