Abstract

The early-modern period, beginning in the fifteenth century, was a time of unprecedented European expansion, as European warriors, traders, settlers, and missionaries covered the globe from China to Peru. It was also the time of the formation of many of the European states that would carry out the imperial project into the twentieth century.
