Abstract

Cheryl L. Clarke is a Black feminist lesbian writer and activist. Born in Washington, D.C., in 1947, she attended Howard University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in English literature in 1969. She went on to attend Rutgers University, where she earned a master’s degree in 1974, followed by a master’s of social work (1980) and her Ph.D. (2000). She spent most of her academic career at Rutgers as well, starting in 1970 as an administrator.
