Abstract

When Ronald Reagan was elected president in 1980, it marked a turning point in politics. While the 1960s and 1970s had seen significant advancements in civil rights, the 1980s were defined as being conservative. This was not only the trend in the United States but also worldwide. For example, conservatives were now in power in England with the election of Margaret Thatcher as Prime Minister, and other countries such as Germany, Canada, and Sweden moved towards a more conservative government as well.
