Abstract
John Jones (1817–1879) was one of the earliest and most prominent African American citizens of Chicago, Illinois. He is best remembered today as an abolitionist, as a friend of Frederick Douglass, and for his work on the Underground Railroad, helping fugitive slaves find places of refuge on their journey to freedom.
