Abstract

“The Negro and the Labor Union” was published in a special labor issue of The Crisis, the official publication of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), in September 1919. Founded in 1910, the magazine is considered the world’s oldest Black publication. Since its inception, the journal has highlighted the African American community’s struggles in their quest for political and social equality. This report shows the efforts of the NAACP and the American Federation of Labor to provide protection and organization of Black labor across the nation.
