The picture symbolizes the disdain that federal government held for radical organizations like the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) during the World War I era. The federal agents who raided the group’s headquarters on November 15, 1919, wanted to find information that could be used to deport the group’s leaders. At the very least, they wanted to destroy the IWW’s ability to function.
