Abstract

During World War II, more than nineteen million women in America worked in various industries while men went to fight the war. Several hundred thousand women worked or volunteered in the military service. Many filled blue-collar jobs that traditionally were male occupations, while others applied their skills in the civil service, medical field, office work, retail, and service industries.
