Abstract

Ellen Johnson Sirleaf accepted the Nobel Prize for Peace on December 10, 2011. In her acceptance speech, “A Voice for Freedom,” Sirleaf focuses on peace and women’s rights. She acknowledges the conflicts and political struggles in her native Liberia, in Yemen, and in other countries and warns against going back to the dark days of war and uncertainty. She asserts that stability would bring new opportunities and change for everyone, especially women.
