During the 1800s and 1900s, American women embraced a variety of reform and justice movements. Some of the efforts were intertwined with feminism, while others addressed other longstanding societal problems. The priorities of these campaigns evolved and changed over time as the movements achieved success or adopted new objectives. Ultimately, the success of many of these movements depended on the leadership and support of American women, who embraced the need for fundamental societal changes to move closer to the goal of full equality.
