This photograph of Interstate 10 under construction at State Route 11 in California was published in the Los Angeles Examiner. It was taken by the State of California Department of Public Works, Division of Highways, on June 22, 1961, and it probably appeared in the Examiner at the end of July. The photo shows the construction of a freeway intersection between California’s State Route 11 (now CA-110) and Interstate 10 (I-10), the freeway that connects Southern California with Florida, the southernmost route of the U.S. freeway system.
