Throughout the Americas there were vibrant and rich indigenous societies when the Spanish arrived in the late-1400s. In the next centuries these cultures would be torn apart by colonialism, disease, and forced migration. However, the events that shaped groups such as the Acoma, the Maya, the Aztecs, and the Hopi, and their resulting accomplishments would resonant throughout history and influence the development of Hispanic culture and traditions in the Americas.
