The Young Lords Party (YLP) was often referred to as the Hispanic Black Panther Party because of its radical and militant approach to social activism. The party grew from the Young Lords Organization (YLO), established by political activist José Jiménez in 1968 in Chicago, Illinois. Although the YLO disbanded by the late 1970s, it left a lasting impact.
