Abstract

New imperialism was characterized by international rivalry between industrial nations over territories, with little to no regard for the thoughts of the people who lived in those territories. Between 1870 and 1914, a wide variety of imperial relationships formed—several possible examples could be cited of the expansion and rivalry that were part of this wave of new imperialism in Asia, Africa, Oceania, and the Americas.
