Abstract

Understand the origins of the Cold War and the degree to which conflict between the United States and the Soviet Union determined the course of post–World War II historical development in various world regions. The Cold War is understood to be an ideological struggle (rather than a military war) between a free, Western, democratic bloc of nations and a totalitarian, Eastern, Communist bloc of nations.
