Abstract

Understand the process by which the values, morals, tastes, and aspirations of the modern bourgeois class came to inform Western historical consciousness. The nineteenth century heralds the arrival of the bourgeoisie as the dominant class in world civilization. What are the political, economic, social, and cultural markers of this dominance? In other words, explain what is meant by the term bourgeois civilization and give some illustration of how it “performs.”
