Abstract

Traditionally, historians have recognized several causes that brought about an all-out European war in 1914: the unification of Germany in central Europe and the resulting loss of balance in European diplomatic, political, economic, and imperial power; the creation of an alliance system meant to protect Germany and create peace through strength, which instead led to a diplomatic conflict of honor in the summer of 1914;
