Abstract

Understand the origins of the totalitarian ideologies of Communism and Fascism and explain how they represent a challenge to the modern Enlightenment world. Communism and Fascism, two extremist political systems of the twentieth century, are often placed as polar ends of a spectrum of modern political ideologies. Are they really diametrically opposed? If so, how? Compare and contrast these two ideologies and describe their points of similarity and difference. Why did these ideologies appear in rapid succession during the early twentieth century?
