Abstract

Zoot suits were a type of men’s clothing that originated among African American entertainers in the 1930s. By the 1940s, the style had become very popular among African Americans, Hispanics, and some Asian Americans, especially in California. A zoot suit included a long, oversize jacket that sometimes hung to the knees and had padded shoulders. The trousers were baggy, fastened above the waist, and tapered around the ankles.
