Abstract

It is estimated that the first plants and animals were domesticated in the Middle East during the ninth and eighth millennia BCE, at the beginning of the Neolithic period. Thus we are looking at a time that precedes the Neolithic Agricultural Revolution and which is known as the Old Stone Age. The beginnings of the Stone Age coincide with the evolution of the distinct genus Homo, an event that occurred 2.5–3 million years ago.
