Abstract

Estimates date the first migrations from Siberia to North America—from the Beringian plain and across the Bering Land Bridge—as having taken place during the Pleistocene, 20,000–55,000 years ago. About 25,000 years ago, the genetic separation began between Asian populations and Native American peoples. Around 12,000 years ago, Native Americans began to migrate throughout North, Central, and South Americas.
