Abstract

Inca legend points to Pacaritambo, about eighteen miles to the southeast of Cuzco, as the site of the origin of the Inca, who occupied the Huatanay River valley of the Andes in modern-day Peru. In the mountain of Tambo Toco were three caves—Maras Toco, Sutic Toco, and Capac Toco. From the central cave emerged four men and four women, the progenitors of the Inca people.
