Abstract

Nubia (modern-day Sudan) was the country to the south of Egypt. The term Nubia may have come from the Egyptian word nbw, meaning “gold,” because there were vast gold resources in the area, but there is no solid evidence for this derivation. The Egyptians called Nubia Ta-sety, meaning “Land of the Bow,” because the Nubians were famous archers.
