Abstract
Mystery religions: Besides the imperial cult and the philosophic religions such as Manichaeism or Neoplatonism in the ancient Greco-Roman world, there were the popular mystery religions that were secret cults reserved for initiates; drugs, music, and dance were sometimes used to induce trancelike states. These secret cults included the Eleusinian Mysteries, the Dionysian Mysteries, and the Orphic Mysteries.
