Abstract

The conversion of European peoples to the Christianity of Rome (from either paganism or such heterodox forms of Christianity as Arianism) was a long process. The rise of monastic orders, particularly those adhering to the Rule of Saint Benedict, was instrumental in the formation of Christian Europe.
