Abstract
The late 1890s to early 1900s was a period of major change for the United States. The U.S. government intervened in the Western Hemisphere in events like the Spanish American War (1898) and the building of the Panama Canal (1904-14), and it articulated its right to do so through interventionist policies like the Roosevelt Corollary (1904).
