Abstract

Vice President Richard Nixon uew to Moscow in 1959 to engage in a cultural exchange with the Soviet Union. (Nixon served as Dwight D. Eisenhower’s vice president from 1953 to 1961, and he served as president from 1969 to 1974.) Nixon attended an event in Russia sponsored by the American government called the American National Exhibition. (A similar USSR-sponsored event was held in New York.) The goal was to improve American-Soviet understanding of one another and showcase their achievements to the world. Both sides could potentially benest from the propaganda the event generated.
