Abstract

The Roosevelt Administration started countless programs and agencies during the Great Depression aimed at putting people back to work or providing material support to help them survive the severe economic collapse. Facing an unprecedented economic downturn, Roosevelt and his advisors embraced Keynesian economic theory. Named for British economist John Maynard Keynes, this theory holds that government intervention can stabilize the economy during a period of economic downturn.
